Makalu Arun Social Trek (MAST), a Social trekking company, established by Sankhuwasasabha Education Scholarship Foundation (SESF) Khandbari organizes treks in the mostly untouched trekking area around Makalu and Arun Valley Region of eastern Nepal.

They work in collaboration with the local communities to ensure a win-win situation between hosts and visitors. All the participants are committed to their community-based social tourism concept and want the local communities to directly benefit from tourism in the area. Local people provide meals and accommodations services to the trekkers in tea houses and home-stays. MAST also provides tourism awareness and, hygiene training to the local tourist service providers.

Guests are also offered to participate in various volunteer activities along their trek. All generated resources support an orphanage entitled Child Welfare Home Khandbari

SESF aims to provide opportunities to all needy children, especially girls from Khandbari and surrounding districts, for obtaining quality education. SESF has designed a child sponsorship program with the vision that the contribution of money and supplies can benefit and even change the lives of many poor and needy children of their community.

Teahouse-style Social Trekking

We foster a community-based approach to trekking through teahouse-style accommodation, village home-stays, local hires, locally-sourced resources, cultural exchanges, support for local service providers, and advocacy for an appreciation not only of nature, but also indigenous cultures. We serve as an ambassador for local communities by facilitating the exchange of goods and services between trekkers and local businesses, like tea houses and village home-stays. Our policy requires trekkers to pay directly to local service providers for their services rendered.

Enjoy the utmost safety during your trek with us. We are licensed and affiliated with   Nepal Ministry of Tourism and TAAN. Our guides and porters are multi-lingual, professionally trained, and insured for your safety and wellbeing.  They live here, and know your destination   very well. We Give Back

We employ local people and local resources. We put people at the heart of what we do and are proud to say that we run a social business. What's more, 100% of the income generated goes back to the local community. We're the low-impact, eco-friendly and community-oriented way to travel!
